Only 17 out of 150 women who played at the U.S. Women’s Open average 260 yards or longer on their drives. Consequently, most of the professional women players are looking for distance in a driver—the same feature most amateur men want.

The typical driver used on the LPGA is less than 65 grams in weight, with 9 degrees or more loft; mid-range kickpoint and torque. Plus, it’s 45.5 inches long, only ½ inch shorter than the standard men’s length.

The most used shaft is made by Fujkura, followed by Mitsubishi, Graphite Design, Aldila and Grafalloy. Klees Golf Shop carries shafts from all of these companies, and getting fit for the right shaft is best accomplished using a Launch Monitor Shaft Fitting

Recently, a customer came by with a Cobra H-9 driver unhappy that he could hit his 3-wood about as far as he could hit the driver. His clubhead speed dictated a maximum distance of around 225 yards with the factory installed regular flex shaft. We installed a new Fujikura ZCOM SIX 55 gram shaft, and he added 10 yards to his drive. Ten yards may not seem like much, but it’s ten more yards than he had before.
