Ball Prices are UP UP UP for 2008
Wed Oct 3, 2007 at 10:05 AM
We just got the product releases for the new Callaway and Nike ball lines and ball prices are UP!. Taking a cue from Titleist, which raised the price of the Pro V1 ball line over 5% Callaway’s new Tour i and Tour ix balls will be at least $2 higher than the Tour/Tour 56 balls. Ditto for Nike’s new One Ball line.
Callaway has also come out with a ball to replace the HX Hot: HX Hot Bite. The ball box is green and the price is $5 more per dz. I guess Callaway thinks if Titleist can sell $30 NXT Tour balls (our retail price) than they can sell $30 HX Hot Bite balls. Since the HX Hot ball was our best selling ball in that category/price, Callaway is probably right.
Nike is leaving the Ignite ball alone for now. That ball does not compete as well in the 2-pc/3-pc over $20/dz segment as the NXT or HX Hot balls. The Ignite ball might suffer from mushy brand identification. The Bridgestone e5 and e6 balls do much better at our shop than the Ignite because the consumer seems more familiar with them. (Fred Couples is a pretty good spokesman, too).
