Earlier in Scotty Cameron’s career he dismissed face-balanced putters as a sort of gimmick, that face-balancing didn’t make any difference in feel or accuracy.

So it’s interesting that his new Newport2 Fastback and Squareback putters are nearly face- balanced. Some of the Tour players using his putters must have convinced him that face-balance weighting improved the MOI or the alignment or something experienced while putting, not necessarily in the studio.

It makes sense to have more than one type of putter: a high MOI type like a Red X, Two-Ball or Squareback, a belly or Mid type, and a blade style.

There are many high MOI putters out on the market that can help you keep the putter face square at impact. The belly or chest-high putters do that by keeping your hands quiet. Once your putting stroke stabilizes you can go back to your blade model for feel and accuracy. This is probably a strategy many of the Tour players use.
