Mizuno's Commitment to Irons Continues

Japanese forged tradition, classic lines & soft feel, improvement in sound, feel and forgiveness are all hallmarks of the new Mizuno iron line-up for 2009.  Mizuno Golf has introduced four new iron models this fall and they all offer something new and exciting for golfers.  The MP-62 and MP-52 are for low handicappers and the MX-200 and MX-100 are for less skilled players.

Mizuno has retired the MP-60 and MX-25, but keeping the MP-57 in the line.  The MP-62 replaces the MP-60 with the same classic lines, but with a rounded off sole to prevent turf drag.  The MP-62 contains a shallow cavity that Mizuno calls “Dual Muscle” to promote perimeter weighting and add slight forgiveness.  This iron will be the model you’ll see in the Mizuno tour players’ bags.

The MP-52 is another forged iron with a pronounced Dual Muscle cavity and slightly wider sole, beveled to roll up the trailing edge.  These two features make the MP-52 more forgiving than the MP-57, which retains the cut muscle design over a full cavity.

Klees Golf Shop has had the new irons since October and we’re getting some feedback.  One of our customers told us that the MP-52 was the best iron he’d ever hit.  He’s a good player but doesn’t get to practice and benefits from the forgiveness of the MP-52 design.

Mizuno will make up sets that combine any of the MP modelsso that you can get exactly the right feeling and performing iron for that part of your game.  We carry both the MP-62and MP-52 as ungripped, full length sets so that you can have them custom sizedgripped and bent to your swing  specs.

The MX-200 replaces the MX-25 with a bigger pocket cavity and larger pocket pad to maximize feel. This model is forged, which also enhances feel and provides good feedback on contact.  The stock shaft is the DynaLite Gold XP, a lighter weight, higher launch shaft well suited for this model.

The MX-100 is a cast club with a mixture of 4- and 5-hybrids, 6- and 7-irons with an extreme pocket cavity and 8-iron through sand wedge with an undercut cavity.  The drop-down crown on the hybrids allows their lie and loft angles to be adjusted at our shop.

There are other sets on the market that combine a hybrid design for the long irons with more traditional shorter iron designs.  However, the MX-100 is either less money or better performing than its competitors.

2009 will be a tough year for golf and any new product introductions will face consumer reluctance to buy new clubs.  Mizuno is trying to get a head start with these new models, confident that once tried, golfers will want them.  We carry demo sets in all of the new Mizuno irons and hope they’re right.
