Personalized Balls - From Nike

While talking to some Nike Golf people at the PGA show we found out that Bridgestone, the manufacturer of Nike One balls, has a (possibly) unique material injection system than enables Nike to custom make a golf ball for each of its Staff players. The new Nike One Black and Platinum balls have two cores and two covers, all of which can be custom injected for a specific compression, hardness and “feel.”It sounds like this process can even control ball spin.

Chad Campbell just started using Nike equipment, but is still playing with a Pro V1 ball. That will almost certainly change in the near future. If Nike can get Chad a ball custom made for his game why wouldn’t he switch?

When you read the “What’s in the Bag?” for the Nike staff players the ball is often “One Platinum (or Black) prototype.” It’s hard to believe that Bridgestone is able to make ten different prototypes and make dozens of each one for tour use. Well, this isn’t practical for Joe Average golfer, but it may be a harbinger of things to come. I haven’t heard anything about Bridgestone doing this for their Japanese tour players so the process may be proprietary for Nike.

I wonder if Titleist is looking at this?
