2008 Might Be the Year of the Woman Golfer

Both the Callaway and Adams Golf sales reps came by today, featuring three different club models for women. Callaway will be offering the X-20 with Gems shafts, the new Big Bertha I-Brid irons with light weight graphite shafts and a pronounced hybrid look in the 4 through 7 irons, and a Big Bertha boxed set, which includes a 420cc driver, 7-wood, a hybrid, three irons and a putter in a bag. This last item is aimed at the occasional golfer who wants something that looks good and helps her get the ball in the air.

Adams Golf bought Square Two earlier this summer. We used to carry Square Two and Lady Fairway clubs a few years ago. These brands were popular for women until their design and production went to China. Now that Adams is involved the Square Two product being offered is quite attractive to women looking for a full package, i.e, bag, woods and irons, for less than $400.

Adams has expanded their Idea offering to include a 12-pc kit, an 8-pc kit, as well as the Square Two clubs. The Idea sets come with new Grafalloy Pro Launch graphite shafts and two color choices. The last two years of sales to women have made Adams a leader in this category.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cobra and TaylorMade followed suit. Mizuno is offering the Sora for 2008, a kit that comprises a driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 7 hybrid, 6-SW, a putter and a cart bag. Charlie isn't too thrilled with the Sora so we won't stock it. However, we will most likely carry two Adams products and the Callaway line for women in time for Christmas.
