SkyCaddie Update: New for 2008

We just got in the SkyCaddie GPS rangefinders, which have become a popular means of determining distances on the golf course. The SkyCaddie is one of several GPS devices currently available for golfers. A few facts about GPS devices:

1. They are legal for tournament use or where a handicap is posted for an event;

2. They all work more or less the same way using a GPS satellite and external mapping of the golf courses.

3. You have to subscribe to a PC based service that enables you to download course GPS coordinates into the device. This service costs $30 to $50 per year.

4. The device is registered in your name and if you want to sell it you have to transfer the ownership.

The SkyCaddie is probably the best known of the GPS devices on the market. There are currently three versions with the following differences:

SG3: This is the basic SkyCaddie with a large screen, current GPS technology and software for downloading courses. The SG3 runs off two AA batteries that last 12+ hours and has a water-resistant armored shell for durability. SkyGolf promotes the SG3 to golfers who travel a lot and don't want to bother with battery chargers.

SG4: The SG4 is virtually the same as the SG3 except it has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can last three or four rounds before recharging. It comes with a wall charger which, frankly, is a bit cumbersome to use. However, it beats disposable batteries, an environmental hazard that should be avoided.

SG5: The newest SkyCaddie features a color screen and a sleek, lighter-weight design. Both of these features might justify the hefty $140 increase in price over the SG4. The color screen is easier to read and the new casing is both water and shock resistant, as well as cooler looking. The lithium battery can be easily replaced, another new feature.

All three models are available to purchase on our website and you get FREE SHIPPING when you buy one before December 30.
