It is not surprising the publications like Midwest Golfer Magazine and Golf Digest have given the new Mizuno MP-57 and MX-950 irons very positive press. The Cut-Muscle Technology Mizuno introduced with the MP-32 iron in 2004 has evolved in the new MP-57 iron to include a full cavity back, providing an optimum combination of playability and control.

The MP-57 iron is a player’s club, but one that gives the better player more
latitude on an off hit, along with the control he seeks approaching the green.
Golf Digest awarded the MP-57 its Gold Award, winning an Outstanding
rating in five categories.
The MP-57 irons are available in both the Dynamic Gold S or R 300 (stock)
or Project X shaft for a small upcharge.
Mizuno
redesigned the MX-900 iron set to introduce the new MX-950 for 2008. The new design is a big improvement in my
opinion over the MX-900 model. The 950
offers two hybrids in place of the 3-iron and 4-iron, retains the Hemi-Cog
design but streamlined it to look less clunky and more classical in the rest of
the set.
H.E.M.I.
COG™ (High Energy Mass Impact) is design technology in all of our MX line of
game improvement irons, created and utilized by Mizuno engineers to precisely
position the mass throughout the club and set to maximize energy transfer from
clubhead to ball for increased distance and forgiveness. This is accomplished
by strategically positioning the COG and optimizing perimeter weighting for
unsurpassed performance. (Mizuno
website.)
"Mizuno's MX-950 irons have drawn inspiration from their hybrid
bagmates to give golfers the benefits of both hybrids and irons in one set.
Mizuno's hybrids come with a high-density tungsten weight to position the CG
deeper in the club. This aids greatly in both forgiveness and trajectory.
Mizuno's patented HEMI COG technology greatly increases energy transfer from
club to ball on all iron shots. Each club's technology transitions seamlessly
from one club to another, meaning golfers will rarely be uncomfortable standing
over any shot."
The MX-950 received Golf Digest’s Silver Award, with the following comments:
Interestingly, the Golf Digest editors expressed mixed feelings about the thinness of the MX-950 iron soles (5-PW). “The sole on these irons might be a touch thin for this category.” That redesign makes the MX-950 a much better looking club to me than its competitors. Nike, Cleveland, Callaway and Tour Edge offer hybrid iron sets with wide soles and a clunky look that I find particularly unattractive. I am not sure that design works for most people either, especially in the shorter irons. However, that’s why it’s a good idea to try out the new models before you buy.
