I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced the wave of disappointment I felt when Kenny Perry blew his lead at the Masters yesterday. I think I channeled his grief, his parents’ woe and the disappointment of thousands of fans who were rooting for Kenny the whole round.
He’s a kind of role model for golfers over 40 who can’t work out every day, love the game and show up when it counts. He doesn’t have a scandal sheet of bad press, steroid suspicions or multiple wives. Kenny’s just a great golfer from KY who made it big on the Tour because he worked hard and persevered.
I couldn’t bear to watch Kenny lose what is probably his last chance to win a major.
